Williams Field’s 2026 season has taken a sudden turn.
The Black Hawks are set to forfeit their last four wins of the season after it was confirmed the violation involved illegal prior contact during the offseason between an assistant coach and a transfer. As a result, the program has been ruled ineligible for postseason play, putting an abrupt end to their run.

The ruling comes just one day after Williams Field was ranked No. 12 by the Arizona Interscholastic Association, making the decision a major late-season shift.
Texas commit JJ Utash, who recently moved from New Mexico, was initially speculated to be connected to the situation. However, sources have since confirmed that he is not related to the violation.
This marks the second time in recent years that a Williams Field spring program has faced postseason ineligibility. In May 2024, the school’s volleyball program was ruled ineligible following an illegal scrimmage, though that decision was later overturned.
In an official statement from the Arizona Interscholastic Association, the organization said, “The Williams Field High School baseball program has determined an ineligible player had participated, which resulted in the forfeiture of games. Since the number forfeitures constitute more than 25% of the regular season schedule, the team is ineligible for postseason play per AIA Bylaw 16.1.1.5.1.”
Senior Night is set to move forward as planned for the Black Hawks, with tonight’s matchup against Higley now expected to be the final game of the season for Williams Field following the postseason ruling.
