Last Thursdayy, McClintock hosted Arizona’s finest at the quarterback position in a showcase of skills, ranging from the deep ball, dropbacks, to the toughest routes to throw. It was a very wide spectrum of quarterbacks, not just the stars of today but the stars of tomorrow as the freshman and sophomores even got some work in. The hosts of the event were Groundup, a relatively new group that concentrates on the development of young quarterbacks. The founders have a lot of experience under center, former Arizona State quarterbacks coach Trey Anderson and current NFL backup quarterback Chris Streveler. The Valley Showcase also featured a variety of competitions focusing on a QB’s throw accuracy and consistency.
Other QBs in the event included Mountain View’s Brady Goodman, Saguaro’s Marcel Jones, Higley’s Gunner Fagrell, Williams Field’s Dom Barjona and many many more. It was a different pace than the 7 on 7s that the QBs were accustomed to. There weren’t any “routes on air” or fade balls to warm up, it was a skill-based competition.. At the end of the day, the crowning MVP was none other than Brody Vehrs.

To reiterate, this was more of a QB competition/showcase to show off their abilities so we didn’t see the core they will be working with their respective team. There were wide receivers there from a handful of different teams, mostly participating to give the QBs a feel for the pace of play. With that being said, Basha is running amok of all offseason events. The story of summer is the dominance of the Basha Bears, sweeping the sevens tournaments at Arizona State and Arizona. With Brody Vehrs winning another competition in the name of the Bears, Basha is poised to make a run at the Open championship. Basha continues to be the number one team to look out for this year.
