Court Ruling Could Give Former Sun Devils Another Chance to Play

Several former Arizona State football players could have another opportunity to suit up for the Sun Devils following a recent federal court ruling.

A judge in Denver granted a preliminary injunction allowing certain Division I athletes from the 2022 high school graduating class to pursue a fifth season of college eligibility.

The ruling applies to players who began competing during the 2022–23 school year and were expected to run out of eligibility following the 2025 season.

For Arizona State, that could open the door for players such as Myles Rowser, Jordan Crook and Jacob Kongaika to return for another season.

Nothing is guaranteed, and ASU would still need to consider roster space, scholarships and NIL resources. However, bringing back experienced players this close to the season could provide a major boost to the Sun Devils’ defense.

The ruling could also create more movement across college football. Players who believed their careers were over may now have the chance to enter the transfer portal, speak with other programs and explore new NIL opportunities.

Because the injunction is only temporary, the situation could continue to change as the legal case moves forward. For now, though, several former Sun Devils may have been given another chance to continue their college careers.
